Survival Guide for Zombie Disaster

Survival Guide for the Living

The undead, the living dead, zombies, we all have different names for them but we all talk about the same none dead creepy crawlers. Fifty years in the future disaster strikes the world. As Voytek says, “Zombies are quite the unexpected disaster to happen” (Voytek). The dead are no longer dead, and zombies start inhabiting the world. In order to survive this apocalypse, supplies, weapons, and knowledge of your surroundings are critical for your survival, not excluding your knowledge of the undead.

In order to fight the undead, weapons are essential and play a big part if you become zombie supper or not. A good piece of information by Voytek is, “A sword is the key for a zombie attack” (Voytek). This gives you the perspective that a Colt. 45 handguns would be just as effective as a MP40 submachine gun or a sword. The difference being the MP40 being louder and more ammo consuming, than the Colt.45. A shot to the head would put down any zombie, or person if needed, instantly. At all time thou should carry at least 3 clips with a 16 round magazine. In any case of an emergency, a bat, a machete, or a golf club can be used to stealthy dismember a zombie head from his body without having the need of alerting other creepy crawlers. Stealth is your camouflage.

Long term independent survival should be in the mind at all times. In that case, supplies is a must. Cans, rice, water, and other non exportable items should be at the top of the shopping list. For mobile use, a backpack with a water, an axe, a watch, body armor, helmet, a solar powered radio, and with a silenced pistol on the side. Thou should always have this backpack on them, to get used to it, and in case of an emergency. Ammo should be expanded to an armory worth 500 zombie heads.

Shelter is essential for long time independent survival. As Brooks says, “If your house is not structurally ready for zombie attack, various measures can be employed to fortify it” (Brooks). No gas, no electricity, and no telephone line should be expected, as humans haven't yet eco- friendly this planet. A house with a one way entrance but several way exits is ideal, for example, a house in Malibu. Zombies can't swim, so the ocean is defiantly an escape route, plus the sand will burn their feet right off. Another being zombies won't be able to get near your house, as most Malibu houses are high above the ground, and as Max Brooks describes it, "Even in the case of ladders, when simple hand-over-hand coordination is required, only one in four zombies will succeed" (Brooks). If a Malibu house isn't available, bid higher! Just kidding, stay in your resistance and applicant it to the zombie surviving life. For sometimes staying home is better as Brooks describes it, “In your home you have the luxury of storing and maintaining a plethora of weapons” (70). Build an indoor garden in which you may grow food, and medical used plants. A garden would save you trouble; Solar stoves are highly recommended, as well as lemons juice to preserve personnel hygiene. Another quote is “All bodies within your perimeter should be buried or burned”, for hygiene.

Know your Jack the Ripper! Knowing a zombies mentality can save your life when an MP40 has overheated, something as simple as mimicking them can confuse them causing escape possible. Another good tip, is distracting them, throw a rock a few feet from them, and those bloody fools will be confused! According to wired.com, and their perspective on zombies, hiding can also be a great solution as they suffer from amnesia, making them forget were you where. The final knowledge is zombies are slow, so run. Zombies suffer from a lack of communication, causing them to groan.

To end, be prepared to wait 5 years before rescue comes. Be smart and have agility. It's survival of the fittest, and this world has no need for those unfit, unfortunately. Although in the end there are always good people working on such cases, such is the CDC. The CDC says they’ll, “It’s likely that an investigation of this scenario would seek to accomplish several goals: determine the cause of the illness, the source of the infection/virus/toxin, learn how it is transmitted and how readily it is spread, how to break the cycle of transmission and thus prevent further cases, and how patients can best be treated,” assures the CDC (Khan).

Literature Analyisis

The Good Soldiers

1. The story starts out as President George Bush is addressing the nation and explaining his new stragies for the war in Iraq. He calls it the surge. This is going to be led by the Ralph Kauzlarich, a lieutenant colonel in the US Army. He was going to lead 800 of the finest soldiers the army had to offer. Ralph is an experienced soldier haven fought in Operation Desert Storm. As he leads the 2-16 battalion. His stress starts to get to him, as when the first soldier died under his command, followed by 13 more. A new leader steps in a General by the name Petraeus. He briefly takes control of the 2-16 and he is in charge of the forces in Iraq. Eventually Lieutenant Colonel Kauzlarich gets promoted to Colonel. In the end as Colonel Kauzlarich is getting elevated by a helicopter, he knows that had won the surge.

2. The theme of this book would be that no matter what the people who wanna do right in the world are always going to win no matter what.

3. This book applied to me because I like war books. I like learning about the history, the successful victories, but also the humiliating defeats.

4. The book is very much realistic, as it was reported by a reporter who was their. These soldiers actually live.

5. The author's tone along the whole book is very mad yet seems as if his annoyed. Not only that he addresses President Bush as dumb for coming up with the surge.

6. Symbolism can be identified in this book, by when soldiers would die they'll get their dog tags. This dog tags represented them, their life and their service in the army. It was as if they lived inside the tags.

Characterization

1. Two examples of direct characterization was when the author described Ralph as being a fragile to heart white man, also he describes how his uniform fit him tight.

2. Yes, it does. When the author addresses Ralph, he seems more positive about things. As if Ralph is the savoir.

3. The protangist is dynamic. He changes along the book. He goes from being a nice decent commander and next thing you know war changed him. As his soldiers died, he became more aggressive. More bloodthirsty.

4. “Thank you Colonel K”(272). These words represented how much his people appreciated Colonel Ralph. Yes, i felt like I got to meet a new person, for i got into the mind of Colonel Kauzlarich.

Enduring Memory.

A memory or a message I got from the author was that in war, you’re never safe. Not a wall made out of concrete with steel covering can save you from war. Not a car that costs 300,000 made out of pure armor, can save you. War changes people. In a way that gives them the stare, a stare that soldiers get, as if they are staring at something that isn't there and never will be.

Vocabulary #11

It is ludicrous that I didn't write this last night. I was in a predicament last night, and I was pondering if either I should stay up and do this or go to sleep. Well I read in an article that staying up is repugnant for you, and I would rather feel good the next day and not feel like I'm descending. Another thing is that if I Dont sleep my hours, I'm not cordial, or polite to people and I'm usually very perturb, and grumpy. What's weird is that I'm not demure, to say this story even though I knew you were going to read it.

Vocabulary #10

A lot of people bemain about what they have in life. But pensive about things you do have. Those people would have no idea what it is like to be devoid or tottally out of money. For not appreciating what you have a lot of those people become melancholy. Molify yourself by going outside everyonce in a while, and look at your garden. Remeber past memories by looking at your momentos from past trips, or simply by watching a good movie. You will never have an idea of how many people would do something illicit to just ascend to the position your in. Appreciate everything you have, because you have no idea what's it like to be broke.

The Sociology of Leopard Man

The Sociolgy of Leopard Man
In the well-written paper called "The Sociology of Leopard Man", Logan Feys explain how society views people like leopard man, those society calls "freaks". Leopard Man unlike how Logan says, isn't discouraged by people or live by what they say. Logan Feys describes in great detail that the reason people are the way they are and not unique and outgoing is because socioty doesn't let them. I personally agree with Feys, as I actually find it a sickness when people try to hard to fit in.
In Feys paper "The Sociology of Leopard Man", he explains Leopard Man as being a person who doesn't care about being Diffrent, or a non- conformist. A non conformist explains more like a person who likes to be diffrent and prefers to be themselves. He also explains in the contrary that a conformist, is someone who lives to please society. This is to him and me, a dangerous disease.
Conformity is good, at a certain limit of course. Feys decribes conformity as "The worlds most common but dangerous psychological disease". This is very true, for a lot of people would do whatever it takes to fit in. Disorders form when this happens, such as eating disorders, depression. For example if Fat Amy, is being called fat, she is going to stop eating just to be skinny and please society. This type of disorders can lead to death.
Another thing is, conformity is it really all that great? Imagine having one Waldo, he wasn't easy to find and when found he was special, because there is only one of him. Now imagine a world, of over six billion Waldo's. Not only is that dangerous, but also very boring. There is no way humans are going to be able to prosper, with everyone having the same ideological thoughts.
Non- conformist is someone who doesn't like to be like anybody else. As Feys decribed he doesn't find people who are over due non conformity. Tatted, metal in there lips, hair products running through there hair, could be traits of a non conformist. Unfortunately, Feys finds this pathetic and just see this people in thirst for society's attention. I find this true, for a Lil Wayne looking guy is going to stand out more, then a guy with a polo shirt.
In the end, where can someone really stand? We'll see no one said you couldn't be both. In my personall opinion, I think everything in its abuse is bad, either being a conformist or a non conformist. The worlds most known hero's have been non conformist. So be a non conformist, but also a conformist.

Vocabulery #9

As I sit here writing this blog, there is a box of savory looking donuts, just enticing me to go get one and pig out. Unfortunately I can't since there not mine but my cohort. How can he be so tactless to my personal appetite needs and just leave them there? Does he have no integrity? It doesn't seem like he does. As time is passing by, I am becoming aloof to writing this assignment, because those donuts just goad me with their chocolate glazed with sprinkles all over covering, and their just sitting there in a pink box. I came to the conclusion that my suffering should be compensated with a donut. My cohort now has eleven donuts.
